Sam Byamukama holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University Kampala, a Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Technology Management from the University of Cape Town and MSc Biomedical Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He joined UNAMHE in 1999 and he is also a member of the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE) and the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE).
He started his career working with medical equipment vendors and has acquired wide experience in managing the medical technology life-cycle from needs assessment to technical specifications, evaluation, procurement, installation, utilization, maintenance and decommissioning – covering facilities in both the private and public health sector. He is also familiar with medical device regulations.
Recently (2017) he has worked as Project Biomedical Engineer for the Uganda Government/African Development Bank (AfDB) funded project to establish the East Africa Center of Excellency for Oncology at the Uganda Cancer Institute.
