Dr. Diana Kanzira Atwine MBChB, MMed, is the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uganda. She is charged with technical leadership as well as stewardship of all financial resources at the Ministry. She is currently focused on introducing reforms in culture, ethics and values in the sector, which she believes will increase quality and access to health care. This is through her advocacy for value for money, proper resource optimization and accountability. She is a staunch crusader against corruption in the health sector.
Dr. Diana is a physician specialist in internal medicine with a post-graduate in Project Planning and Management. She has rich experience in International Clinical Trials and bio-ethics especially in HIV/AIDS.
She is the former Director of the Health Monitoring Unit under Statehouse whose role is to ensure a responsive and accountable national healthcare system through access to care. The unit is also aggressive in fighting corruption in the sector and holding accountable those that are found breaching the established code of conduct.
She is a strong advocate for integrity, transparency, and results oriented performance. She is passionate about quality of care and upholding the dignity of patients.
Dr. Diana is married with 3 children.
