Fast growing population rates, strong urbanization trends, an increasing middle class, new and severe health challenges, are among the multiple factors stimulating the need for upgrades, expansions and construction of hospitals across the entire continent.
After successful editions in South-Africa, Zambia and Mozambique Noppen is hosting the 4th Annual Africa Hospital Expansion Summit in West-Africa, Ghana, Accra.
At the event government officials, investors, operators, architects and contractors will be meeting medical device suppliers, technology and service vendors, consultants, banks and regulatory bodies.
For the third consequent year, LNoppen organised in partnership with EAHF the Africa Hospital Expansion Summit. After 2 successful years in South Africa and Zambia, the 3rd edition took place in Mozambique, where the government is having big plans for new public hospitals and where also private operators such as Lenmed Health are looking for further expansion.
The 3rd Annual Africa Hospital Expansion Summit featured over 30 prominent industry leaders, providing informative and inspiring discussions pertaining to the current needs and the future development of the industry in the region. Global and local healthcare groups, hospitals, developers, investors, construction companies, architects, financial institutes, associations, consultants and solution providers were invited to discuss the upcoming and the existing projects, investment possibilities, innovative healthcare financing methods, trends and technology updates as well as quality of care.
While there were a number of outstanding speakers at the event, a special thanks goes to the Chairpersons of the summit, Ms. Kerry Williams from Webber Wentzel and Mr. Amit Thakker from KHF. They stood out by demonstrating that an event with such a crowded agenda can be run smoothly.
The 2015 conference kicked off on Tuesday evening already with a welcome cocktail, sponsored by the BCG Engineering Group. Then on Wednesday morning, the summit was officially declared opened by Ms. Elenia Macamo Amado, National Deputy Director For Medical Assistance, Ministry Of Health, Mozambique.

After a welcome cocktail on Wednesday evening, the conference was officially declared opened by Dr. Davy Chikamata, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health of Zambia. The two day event, which was organized by Noppen in partnership with the East Africa Healthcare Federation, hosted delegates from 13 different African countries, as well as representatives from Europe, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East.
During the two-day conference, 34 of our eminent speakers brainstormed in several discussion panels and shared their visions with the delegates in numerous presentations. Discussion panels provided valuable insights and opinions to answer questions regarding the benefits and challenges of the capitations system, new ways of finding funding for hospital projects, and what is needed to continue strengthening Africa’s healthcare system. Both domestic and international experts evaluated current conditions and trends, analyzed strengths and weaknesses, and emphasized opportunities to develop the market further. Moreover, the first steps towards creating a unified Africa Healthcare Federation were taken during a private evening meeting led by EAHF executives on Thursday September 4th.
We would like to thank the Ministry of Health of Zambia for supporting the event as well as our keynote speakers and panelists.
A special thanks goes out to our Association Partner, EAHF
