Dr Olujimi COKER. FRCS (Eng & Glasg), FRCS (Gen Surg), FWACS
Dr Jimi Coker qualified from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 1984 and did his specialist surgical training in the United Kingdom. He was Clinical lecturer in Surgery at Northern General Hospital and University of Sheffield, UK in January 1999 and Consultant General Surgeon at Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Trust. He served as Chairman International Development Committee of Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland at the Royal College of Surgeons, England 2005 – 2010.
In 2010 he took a sabbatical to join the Hygeia Nigeria Group and Lagoon Hospitals, Lagos as Chief of Surgery. After his two-year sabbatical, he resigned from the UK National Health Service to take up permanent appointment with Hygeia Nigeria Limited.
He led the Quality Improvement unit to achieve Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation for Lagoon Hospital in 2011 – the first hospital in sub-Saharan Africa. The hospitals have since been reaccredited in 2014 and 2017. He is a board member of the Society for Quality healthcare in Nigeria (SQHN) and the Chairman, SQHN Technical Committee that is responsible for the production and implementation of accreditation standards across all Nigerian hospitals. He is a member of the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua).
